Condolences: Chris Nicholl, Footballer (12 Oct 1946 - 24 Feb 2024)

Chris Nicholl was a member of our Club from 1997-2015. A tough and uncompromising professional footballer who retired from playing in 1984 and later worked as a coach and manager. The majority of his playing days were spent at Aston Villa and Southampton between 1972 and 1983. He managed both Southampton and Walsall and also worked alongside Lawrie McMenemy for 2 years as assistant manager to the Northern Ireland Team. He won 51 caps for NI. In addition to his football prowess, Chris was also a competitive vets tournament and county tennis player (Hampshire & IOW) and well respected amongst his peers. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

65th AGM / Chair and Members' Annual Dinner

Polite reminder that our 65th AGM is being held at Richmond GC on Monday the 4th of March at 6:30pm, followed by the Chair & Member's Annual Dinner. We have a terrific guest speaker this year - Ian Hewitt MBE. Jim Whittaker will soon be contacting all attendees for their dinner menu choices. Please confirm by Monday the 26th of February if you are able to join us for the AGM and/or Dinner. We look forward to welcoming members and guests for what should be a very enjoyable and informed evening.

Condolences - Alan Mills CBE

An Honorary member of our Club since January 1981, Alan was well respected throughout the tennis fraternity by players and officials. Probably best known as the Wimbledon tournament referee from 1983-2005 but he also had a very distinguished playing career throughout the 50's & 60's. It all began in Lancashire as a gifted junior and progressed through competing at Wimbledon and in the Davis Cup. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

Condolences - Sir Mervyn Brown KCMG OBE

Member of our Club since October 1972, Sir Mervyn died a few days after his 100th Birthday. A former British Ambassador to, and published historian of, Madagascar. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1949 and was a tennis blue at Oxford. Our condolences go to his family and friends.
