Ted Avory (1909-1995)
The Seniors' (formerly Veterans') Lawn Tennis Club of Great Britain's was formed in 1958 by Dennis Coombe and Tom Todd, Ted Avory being our first Honorary Member. Dennis Coombe was a New Zealand Davis Cup player who settled in the UK and played at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Tom Todd, an avid collector of tennis memorabilia, was instrumental in setting up the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum where his collection is on permanent loan. Edward Raymond 'Ted' Avory was one of the most charismatic figures in British tennis. He competed at Wimbledon numerous times and became influential across many areas of the game covering The All England Club, LTA and ITF. He was a leading figure in the setting up and organisation of veteran's tennis. Visit our History Page for more information.
